The other day a friendly stranger wrote a couplet to which I replied through a couplet of mine. Thus, the first stanza came into being. This ignited a spark in my mind and I decided to continue and write something on that. I went with the flow, and finished what that person had started unintentionally. A poem, “(Nahi) Muhabbat Buhat”. Here you go,
Mujhe zameen raas nahi aati,
Suna hai chaand taaron mein bhi hai muhabbat buhat.
Sirf kashish e saqal ka kamaal hai aur kuch nahi,
Chaand taaron mein hai nahi muhabbat buhat.
Jaanay kyun shaam dhaltay hi udaasi hai chhaa jaati,
Suna hai aaftaab aur maghrib mein bhi hai muhabbat buhat.
Din aur raat kay tabaadlay kay usool hain aur kuch nahi,
Sooraj aur maghrib mein hai nahi muhabbat buhat.
Romaaniyat kay sur najanay kyun hai tehzeeb gaati,
Suna hai gul o bulbul mein bhi hai muhabbat buhat.
Talab e arq e gul, khuahish e bulbul hai aur kuch nahi,
Gul o bulbul mein hai nahi muhabbat buhat.
Me aaj tak na badla, ye baat samajh nahi aati,
Suna hai logon ko badal deti hai muhabbat buhat.
Buss falsafiyana kitabi baaten hain aur kuch nahi,
Yaa shayad uss se mujhe thi nahi muhabbat buhat.
[Thank you Saiz, for reminding me of my long forgotten Urdu poetry skills and for the collaboration of first couplet.]
